Based on ~40 groups, provide the following on each of the three experimental days (amounts based on ~40 groups):
- LB agar plates: ~2000-3000 needed for around 40 groups over the three days
- 2 ml S. marcescens: enough for 1 per group per session. Culture at around 1 x 10-9 cfu/ml (i.e. an overnight culture grown aerobically in LB at 200 rpm 37°C)
- Empty petri dishes: box
- Sterile 50 ml falcons (suitable for centrifuges): box
- Sterile 15 ml falcons: box
- Sterile 7 ml bijous: box
- Sterile 1.5 ml Eppendorfs: few boxes

- Sterile wooden blocks in beakers of ~5: enough for a pot per group per session
- Chopping boards & knives: one per group
- Virkon pots: one per group (for contaminated labware, such as tweezers)
- LB broth in 1 L Durans: put 2 x 1 L per session in a flow hood with sterilised Oxford dispensers set to 5 ml. Students come and help themselves
- Sterile 20 ml universals: a box in/next to the flow hood containing LB dispensers
