Sheffield Pressbooks Network

a place for University of Sheffield authors to create, adapt and publish open books

What are open textbooks?

Open textbooks are a type of open educational resource (OER) which reside in the public domain or are under copyright and have been released under an open licence (such as Creative Commons), that permits no-cost access, re-use, re-purpose, adaptation and redistribution by others. Our University supports the use and creation of OER (find out more).

Search the Open Textbook Library to find existing open books from around the globe for your students.

This Pressbooks authoring and editing tool is provided and administered by the University Library for University staff. It enables you to:

  • create a new text-based resource, such as an open textbook
  • clone existing open textbooks and modify or adapt them
  • embedĀ interactive exercises, and deep link in Blackboard
