Visualising defence gene expression in plants
This practical is for Level 1 students and aims to expose students to hypothesis-driven research and address research questions about how plants respond to environmental stress signals. The practical uses Arabidopsis thaliana plants expressing a GUS reporter gene, which allows students to visualise defence gene expression. Although the practical starts with two lectures to refresh knowledge about eukaryotic gene regulation, students who have completed our Molecular and Cell Biology foundation course find it easier to follow this practical.
The project is made up of four practical sessions, plus a lecture and planning session beforehand and a wrap-up Q&A session after.
