Book Description
This open source textbook acts as a general introduction to architectural science, for students and practitioners of architecture, civil and building services engineering. The aim of this book is to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to support low Carbon design of new buildings and and renovation of existing buildings.
A colour-coding system is used to help students navigate through the book, which addresses the following subjects: heat flow, moisture flow, thermal comfort, airflow, solar geometry and design, daylight design, artificial lighting, architectural acoustics and renewable energy systems. The book closes with a discussion of how buildings interact with other buildings and networks. These higher scale considerations are complemented with discussions of some emergent policy scenarios and technological trends.
