9 Summary
This book has taken you through the clearance calculations, showing you how to use the calculations to calculate GFR, and the renal tubule handling of ions, solutes and water. This approach is critically important in renal research, as it allows you to evaluate renal function in vivo, with all of the regulation mechanisms (neuronal, hormonal) intact. In the clinic it allows the renal function in patients to be evaluated, with measurement of GFR particularly important in reviewing the presence of chronic renal failure. Therefore, the clearance approach is a very powerful tool to evaluate renal function.
I hope you have found this book helpful and instructive.
